Biography

Dr. Chiung-ju Liu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy. Dr. Liu was a NIDDR postdoctoral fellow at the Health and Disability Research Institute of Boston University before she joined the faculty.

Completed doctoral research award from Division 20-Adult Development and Aging, American Psychological Association in 2007.

Scholarly Work

Dr. Liu has two lines of research. One is health literacy in older adults, in which she examines factors that affect older adults’ comprehension of common, health-related, written information. The related research goal is to help writers create easy-to-read and easy-to-remember health-related written materials for older adults. Another line of research is physical activity and older adults. She investigates the effect of using physical activities, such as muscle strength training, on older adults’ physical function. The related research goal is to help heath care professionals understand the effectiveness of using physical activity to improve physical function in older adults with or without disabilities.
